Obediah H. and Nancy Elizabeth Huey Tyson
The parents of Minnie Tyson Hunter were Obediah Hargraves
Tyson (1852-1919) and Nancy Elizabeth Huey Tyson (1854-1938). They were both born in Cherokee County,
Georgia. They were also were old enough
to be aware they were living during the time their homeland was involved in a
Civil War, with people that they knew going off to war and some not coming
back.
Obediah's parents were Robert Cabel Tyson (1821-1864) and
Sarah C. Moody Tyson (1815-1896). And
Nancy's parents were John T. Huey (1826-1891) and Drucilla Wilson (1825-1905).
Both Obediah and Nancy grew up in the same Cherokee County,
Georgia, agricultural community near
what is now Bells Ferry Road and Highway 92.
Needless to say, both of their families were farmers. Based on burials both families probably
attended Bascomb Methodist Church. The
probably knew each other all their lives.
Obediah had a mill that the millstone was turned by a mule
They were married 18 January 1877 in Cherokee County. Obediah was
24 and Nancy was 22. They had 9
farmhands, opps! I mean childen, 5 girls
and 4 boys.
Obediah lived 66 years and Nancy lived 83 years. They are both buried in nearby Bascomb
Methodist Chruch.
