Transyvania County, NC

We were told that Transyvania County, North Carolina, has a lot of water falls.    We spent a couple of days there.

We also discovered that the county is also known for white squirrels.   We saw a big selection of white squirrels post cards and talked to natives who said they are all over the place.  But, during our stay, they hid.

Which reminds me, there was a white squirrel that hung out near the dog park we go to.  I saw it often, near the dumpster.  But no more.  The disappearance of a white squirrel that hung out at a dog park is no mystery.

The waterfalls in Transyvania County is in Thigpen National Forest.   At one time the Thigpen National Forest was owned by George Vanderbilt, owner of the Biltmore Estates near Asheville, North Carolina.  After George died the Biltmore Estates began to lose money.  It cost a lot of money to pay the employees but they had several enterprises, such as crops, dairy, etc.  To pay the bills Mrs. Vanderbilt has to sell the Thigpen National Forest and some other huge land parcels to the U.S. Parks.   It wasn’t exactly having to stand on a street corner and sell apples, but she did what she had to.
