N Ga Clarksville

Clarksville is the town seat of Habersham County.  My in-law's in-law was Moses Harshaw.  He lived about ten miles away.  He was a big farm owner and also lawyer.  As a lawyer he was his biggest client.  He was always being arrested for manslaughter.  He owned slaves and when one was too old to work or too sickly to work he would end their life by pushing them off the highest cliff around, Lynch Mountain.  He felt strongly they were his property and he could do what he wanted. Moses married Nancy England, who was aunt to two England siblings Daniel and Peggy England who married two of John Hunter's children Harriet and  William Johnson Hunter.

Moses was considered at one time "The meanest man in Georgia".  On his grave marker his wife had engraved, 'DIED AND GONE TO HELL."
