Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Union County, Ga
I am not positive who this John Lance, born 1808 is. However, I have a speculation who it might be. My ancestor John Hunter had a daughter named Rebecca who married Samuel Riley Lance (1814-1895). Riley was born in Clay County, North Carolina. So were a lot of other Lances. Riley's occupation was "gun for hire". If someone was to duel someone and didn't feel up to it, for a fee Riley would take the man's place. Riley stood in for a man to duel in Union County, Georgia. After Riley did what he was paid for he decided the folks were mighty kind, and thought he just might move there, which he and his family did. Samuel Riley Lance's father was John M. Lance (1787-1852). I would think he would have had a John Lance, Jr and he would be near Samuel Riley's age, 1808 and 1814 , six years is within reason of a age difference between siblings.
