So Long Sen Daniel Inouye, You Will Be Missed

Senator Daniel Inouye (Hawaii) died yesterday.  He has been a Senator as long as Hawaii has been a state.

I remember seeing him during the Watergate Hearings.  He seemed to be sharp and could smell a cover up or a lie quicker than the others represenatives on the panel.  That was the first time I noticed the one-armed Japanese-American.  He lost his arm in WW II.

As I heard more about him and what all he had to overcome with no hard feelings the more I respected him.  Still do.

He was 88.

Republicans Saving Public Money - Hah!

Sara Palen, Alaska governor

Jim DeMint, Senator of SC

John Bulloch, state senator of Georgia

Chip Rogers, state reprenative of Georgia

Glenn Richarson, Speaker of the House

Female elected official of Georgia was sent to prison for misuse of public money (I don't remember her name).

What do these people the above people have in common?  They left their office while in office, thus causing a special election.  One would think Richard M. Nixon and Spro Agnew would be included but their resination did not require a special election.  Most of the above did resign because of a scandal but some like Palen appeared to have resigned on a whim.

I had heard that state-wide special elections costs about a half million dollars.  Not all of the above would be state wide, but costly, never the less.

Republicans all the time appear to be concerned about government costs and claim to do all in their power to bring down the costs.

By the way, what else do the above people have in common?

Ratner Romney

Ratner Jewerly Company in England was an old established dependable jewerly company.  It was worth millions.  They even bought Kay Jewerly in America.  Then in 1991 the unthinkable happened, Gerald Ratner, the CEO of the time gave a speech to the at the Institute of Directors.  In the speech he said their jewerly was cheap crap sold for a high price and probably wouldn't last as long as prawn sandwich.  The speech was a joke, but it got in the wrong hands and was taken out of context.  The company quickly begin losing sales and their reputation.  They almost went bankrupt.*

After this when an executive in a company put his foot in his mouth and the public reaction of bad it was known as "Doing the Ratner".

When Romney was on the campaign trail, every time he said something unscripted, he did the Ratner.

It has been said that for a Christmas present the Republicans gave the Democrats Romney.

What Is Good For the Goose Is Good For the Gander

Texas Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst backed  a change in the state law requiring mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients.  There is nothing wrong with that, putting the poor folks in an embarrassing postion for taking money to survive on.

I do not know much about David Dewhurst but I have watched Rick Perry when he ran for governor.  I noticed the way he fumbled and got hung up on the next word he was going to say in such a way, I wondered if he was under the influence of alcohol.

So, if the poor have to take drug tests to get money should the elected officials also take test to see how often they are under the influence while making important decisions?  After all, their decisions will effect the economy much more the poor people welfare checks will.

Mitt Getting Milk and Batteries for Hurrican Sandy

Here is a news item picture of people in line stocking up on things to help brace them in the case Hurricane Sandy knocks out power sometime later today.

Of course the politicians are riding this storm for all it's worth.

I was looking at the above picture and thought what a great photo-op for Romney!  An AP or UP picture of common people lined up with their bread, batteries, and milk and in the middle of the the middle line is Romney holding  milk and batteries to buy.  He has been trying to show he is just an ordinary average guy - now is his chance!

Ex-Senator Arlen Specter Died Yesterday

This morning on NPR I heard a commentator review his notes on the late Senator Arlen Specter.

Specter spent 30 plus years as Republican Senator of Pennsylvania.   He voted his convictions more than loyalty to his party.  He voted for Obama's Stimulas Package which more or less ended his political career.

He said it was needed just like FDR's work packages were needed during the depression.

He said he would support his party when he could, but he had to vote his concious also.

It is a shame we have allowed partisan politics to rule.

So Who Won The VP Debate?

I think, again, it is according to which side you are on.  I think when Joe Biden made a good point, and if you for him, you would think WHAMO!  On the other hand, when Paul Ryan made a good point you would ball your fist up and jump like a cheerleader, maybe even do a cartwheel or a few hand springs.

Although, we must be truthful with ourselves and remember each is only a puppet for their boss.  Also, we should keep in mind that one of these men is only a heartbeat away from being the President.

Keeping the above paragraph in mind, I think Joe should have asked Paul what did he think about John Galt.

I have to hand it to both of them.  Their debate was more exciting than their bosses.

This Was The Cobb Counrty Courthouse

when I was growing up.  Then, it mysteriously burned up.  Or, mysteriously to me anyway.  Commissioner then, Herbert McCollum was trying to get rid of it and replace it.  I'm not saying I thnk he had anything to do with it.  But I'm not saying I think  the opposite either.

His wife Jesse was my 3rd grade teacher.  I think she was too sweet to have knowingly share a her bed with a snake.

Promises, Promises

I think the Republicans will be rather vocal soon, as if they weren't already, to remind the public of the campaign promises Obama has not kept.

I think the public should remind them just who fault that is.  Could it be the ones who voted down just about every bill the president intoduced?  The ones that kept everything partisan?  Even the ones that would have created jobs - just for the purpose of making the president look bad?   Naawwwww!  Nobody would sink that low as put politics above the needs of the country.

We (Georgians) Are Crumbling Into Dust!

Soon, when the budget cuts become effective, Georgia will be the only state in the Union that the state archives will not be open to the public.  Why?   They are cutting the payroll; the number of people working at the archives will be reduced.

Well, I guess we could do worse, we could have a school system that does not even offer math to its students.  Wait!  We already have that too.  We can only afford to pay so many teachers, you know.  It is no wonder Georgia is 49th in academic achievement.

Well, at least we haven't been faced with higher taxes.  I suppose that is something to brag about.

The Democrats Disapointed Me

I know Romey and other Republican leaders have taken some of the things Obama said and used it out of context.  I thought "how unethical and unfair!"

Yesterday on NPR I heard a political expert analyze statements the Obama and other leaders have said in speeches and they are guilty of same thing.

It is hard to know who to believe.

But, I hope the facts and figures speak for themselves.  The employment and production are on an upswing.  One might argue that Obama had little to do with that.  Well, I don't know if he did or didn't.  But I do know he would surely get the blame if unemployment was on the downslide.
