Dawson Church, Mariettta, Ga

Dawson Cemetery is on Shallowford Rd, next to Nicholson School and across from McCleskey Middle School.

Recognize the name Otis Brumby.  There are several generations of Otis Brumbys piled on to of each other that were publishers of the Marietta Daily Journal

Once driving down Shallowford Road, about the time McCleskey Middle School was getting out I noticed a crowd of boys in the cemetery.  I slowed down for a better look and in the center of the crowd of boys was an opened face and two boys had their dukes up, circling ready to get on fighting.  History repeating itself.

This Westmoreland is a 2nd cousin in-law.  My grandfather''s little brother married Gwen Westlmoreland that lived on Bells Ferry Rd, just a few miles away.

Marvin Shaw's parents (and Marvin) lived next door where Nicholson Elementary School is now.  I think the cemetery is their property and they still manage the cemetery.  Marvin said when he was teenager it was his job to keep the grass cut.  Ironically, now he lives just north of Calhoun, Georgia, next to a Confederate Cemetery.  He told me there is no one to cut the grass in the CSA cemetery so he does it every time he cuts his own.  Old jobs are hard to break from.
