Robert Cabel and Sarah C. Moody and Their Children.
Robert Cabel Tyson (1821 6 April 1864) was born in Clarke
County, Georgia, to the parents of Eugene Hargraves - Job - Tyson (1798-1868)
and Frances Eliza Porthress Herring
Tyson (1799-1878). Robert was born in
Clarke County, Georgia and died in Cherokee County. Georgia. He was the 3rd of 15 children, he has the 2nd
oldest son. He had 5 sisters and 9
brothers.
Sarah C. Moody Tyson
Sarah C. Moody (1815-1896) was born in South Carolina and
probably spent her formative years in
Tunnel Hill, Whitfield County, Georgia, and Ball Ground, Cherokee County,
Georgia. She was the second child of ten
children, three brothers and six sisters, of Allen Moody (1792-bef 1850) and
Nancy Murphy (1794- ? ).
At age 21, 3 September 1843, in Cherokee County, Robert
married Sarah, age 28.
I purposely shown the exact date Robert Cabel Tyson's death,
which is 6 April 1864. It was a
meaningful time in the community in and
around what would become Highway 92 and Bells Ferry Road. Yankee scouts on horseback were in the area and
skirmishes were happening. In about six weeks there would be a full
battle at Kennesaw Mountain, just several miles down the road. One skirmish happened in the small Tyson Cemetery. The last I heard a historical marker was
being made for that cemetery fight.
Was Robert killed during one of these skirmishes? He was only 42 when he died. We do not know now.
They are buried in the Tyson Family Cemetery, in south Cherokee County, near the
intersection of Hwy 82 and Bells Ferry Road.
It is a small cemetery, no bigger than a bed room. It has only four marked graves and several
rough stone markers with no names. When
I first found the cemetery in the 1970s it was in a pine thicket. Now, it is on top of a bank overlooking a
storage company. Sarah Moody Tyson lived 80 years.
They had eight
children, 4 daughters and 4 sons:
Eliza Frances "Fannie" Tyson and James Ephrah Kuykendall and Family
Eliza Frances "Fannie" Tyson (1844-1927). Fannie married James Ephrah Kuykendall (1848
- 1915), son of John Kuykendall (1817-1890) and Matha "Mattie" Tate
Kuykendall. They are buried at Carmel
Baptist Church, Woodstock, Cherokee County, Georgia.
They had ten children, 4 daughters and 6 sons.
My wife is descended from Fannie Tyson and James E.
Kuykdendall, which means we have the common ancestry from Robert Cabel and
Sarah Moody, on up through the ages. We
are 3rd cousins, once removed. We found
this out about ten years after we were married.

For some, flag no part of
heritage
Colin Campbell - Staff
Thursday, January 18, 2001
The main reason Georgia's state
flag of 1956 (which includes the Confederate battle flag) is still flying is
that most white Georgians like the flag, resent being told it's offensive, or
both. But there are clearly some white Georgians --- even among those very
proud of their Southern heritage --- who want to see the flag changed. Excerpts
from their letters:
Rockwell T. Hunter, Marietta:
"Please add my name to the list of descendants of Confederate soldiers
supporting a change in the current flag. I also happen to be a very
conservative voter, yet I favor changing this upsetting symbol."
Rocky believes in going by rules,
regulations, and traditions. He will only vote on the first Tuesday of
November, even though, to lighten to load, in his voting area one can vote up
to a week before hand and he must have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.
He has a mix hunting terrier
named Belle.

Tammy Prance [27] was born on 2 Feb 1964.
General Notes: Mother always
tells me this story on my birthday. She is snow-birding in Florida this year,
so I thought I would write it down. This is the story of my birth…
January and February 1965 – Mom,
Dad and Belinda were living in a very little travel trailer (6 ft wide) in
Indiantown Florida. Belinda always says that when Mom (pregnant with me) was
coming down the hall you had to get out of the way because there wasn't room
for two people in the hallway. This was also the trailer where Mom found the
live alligator in the bathtub and where Belinda had her pet owl. Indiantown is
in central Florida and, for those that don't know it rains most every day at
3pm. Daddy was working construction (driving a dozer) so rain every afternoon
was not a good thing. Maw Maw and Paw Paw Murphy (Mother's Mom and Dad) had
rented a trailer close by so that they could be there when the time came. Mom
and Maw Maw fished most every day. I think this is when Mother ran the lunch
truck (roach coach) for the migrants working in the field. Not much room in
that little trailer for her big belly either. There was no hospital in the
town, so Mom went to see the Doctor in town (Dr. Wirt). He told her that when
the time came, he would deliver the baby in his office, wrote her a
prescription for a shot and told her he would see her later.
February 2, 1965 – Belinda went
to school. Mom had been in labor in the doctor's office for a few hours. The
shot she had gotten had worn off and Dr. Wirt was starting to get a little
nervous. As he told her "Mrs. Prance, this baby got in there and now it
has to come out." He walked to the back of his office. When he came back,
he had a spot of blood in the bend of his elbow. Seems he had given himself a
shot of something, but didn't offer Mom any. They used forceps to deliver me
and the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. After a couple of hours
"recovering" in the doctor's office, they sent us home. It was around
3pm so it was raining. Maw Maw Murphy was having a fit that the baby was
getting out in the rain. No matter that Mother who had just given birth was
getting out in the rain. Daddy went and got Belinda from school. Her comment
was "She's ugly with those marks on her face." So I was back home in
the trailer about 2 ½ to 3 hours after I was born.
February 3 or 4 – Dr. Wirt came
to check on Mom. Her breasts had become infected. He wrote her a prescription
for some medicine. Daddy followed the Doctor out of the neighborhood and back to
town. As he was driving across the long bridge at Lake Okeechobee, Dr. Wirt ran
into the bridge 3 times. Seems he had a drug / alcohol problem. When Daddy got
to the drug store, he asked the pharmacist if the prescription the Doctor had
written was the right stuff and was told it was. Dr. Wirt checked himself into
the rehab hospital after me. I was his last delivery.
Later on in February or March –
In 1964 when Mom and Dad had remarried, Daddy had promised Mother he wouldn't
gamble anymore, but as he said "We have to pay for this baby." He
left the trailer one Friday night, walking. When he returned on Sunday, he was
bloody and beat up really bad. The story goes that he found some guys to play
poker with and he won (he probably cheated). Anyway, the men lost money they
could not afford to lose. As he used to say, they were going to get their money
back one way or another. After a while, he went to the bathroom and put some of
the money in his boots. When he came out of the bathroom, someone hit him over the
head with a beer bottle and they beat him to a pulp. They took his wallet, took
all the money out of the wallet and threw it into the trash can. When Daddy
woke up, he used his handkerchief to wipe the blood out of his eyes, found his
wallet in the trash can, had the money he had hidden in his boot and walked
back home. He used to always say "When I got home, your Mama dug dried
blood out of my ear with a bottle opener and we picked pieces of glass out of
my head for a month." Mom still has that handkerchief with the blood on
it.
So see, my beginning was full of
such fun and excitement -- would you expect anything less from the rest of my
life...

BLAKE'S STORY:
To know my grandfather was to
know an angel in the flesh. He deeds
outweighed his faults ten fold. I'm not
sure if had a goal in life, but it would seem the only thing he honestly cared
about was to see someone else happy.
Many times I have seen him go to great lengths to make a stranger smile.
Julian Prance was a man who had his on
little world and only a few knew of this place.
He chose to live like this for what reasons I do not know. I think, Robert Frost wrote the poem
"THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED" to help us understand people like my
grandfather. "Two roads diverged in
a wood, I chose the one less traveled by, and that made all the
difference". That was my Grandpaw
to a "T".
I remember times with him to be
adventurous, fun, and educational. There are so many memories I have but the
one that sticks out the most in my mind is a trip we took to Uncle Tommy's
house, (he was Grandpaw's best friend in the world). They introduced me to rodeo - bare back
riding on the infamous "Bull Goat" - with a billy goat. They taught me to shoot the Big Gun, and the
all famous face to face encounter with a dead alligator head. These stories were heard by many, but were
best told by the Master Minds themselves.
My grand-paw, the best friend I've ever
had. My mother used to tell me I was his
favorite. However, we had a bond that
allowed us to share many secrets. The
truth of it is that his daughter (my mom) was his true love. When we were together, he would always tell
me stories of her and the things that he wanted for her. He always said he "owes her more than he
would ever give her." I never knew
what he meant by that, maybe she does.
Jodie's Story:
Thank you for joining us here
today to pay respects for my grandpa.
This is a quick message to my
mom, my grandpa's only child. Mom if
there is one truth that all parents much embrace sooner or later, it is that no
matter how much you love your children, there comes a time when you must in
some form or fashion let them go. Let
them spread their wings and fly.
Eventually the child must learn the same thing. When a parent dies, we do not say good-bye as
much as we release them from our continuing need for their love and
confirmation. I just wanted to let you
know that whatever happens through the course of our lifetimes, I am here in
this world and I love you as deeply as I know love.
No event in my life has been so
devastating. This world feels so empty
without Grandpa here. It is really
strange how I never knew just how much space my Grandpa occupied in my world
until the day I lost him, the day of the
big void.
My first image of my Grandpa is
that of a man who is strong, sensitive, hard working, stubborn, big sense of
humor, happy, and truly the most generous, kind hearted, giving person I have
ever in my life known. My Grandpa made
the meaning of giving so real to me. He
gave unconditionally. He gave and
expected absolutely nothing in return. But to see a person smile. A smile to my grandpa was more rewarding
than anything a person could have given him in return. There aren't many people in this world have
this type of disposition. My Grandpa was
one of a kind. He was easily taken advantage of by people
who would continuously take and never give back.
For instance:
Ex: Gave his house to a little barmaid.
Ex: Gave his truck to a lady at the gas station.
Ex: Bought me two cars and he didn't even have a
dependable car of his own.
To sum it up in a nut shell he
would literally give his shirt off his back to help a person in times of need
and even took it a step further.
I honestly believe that when my
Grandpa loved most about life was people and the chance to befriend them in
their time of need, to ease their pain even though it magnified his own. As much as he loved to give he could not
stand to be given to in return.
Ex: Taking him to dinner for his B-Day at
Bennigans where they sung for him. He
would have crawled beneath the table if he could fit! He never came around after that on his
birthdays.
Grandpa enjoyed being outside,
playing games with my mom, debating with my mom just trying get her to outsmart
him, he loved giving to people to working and singing these silly tunes. He enjoyed spending time with his
animals. He was a good auctioneer. He loved to meet new people and tell stories.
Grandpa was a mysterious old
man. He didn't tell me much about his
past. The one story he told quiet often
about his childhood was about
Ex: Tommy,
his brother, cut his finger off and the chicken ate it! He used to tell this story to kids who were
putting their finger in their mouth or nose.
He was a very free spirited
man. He was the type of person who may
live with us for 8 months and then leave and you wouldn't hear from him for two
years. All of a sudden you would get a
knock at the door and there he was cute as can be standing there like a little
child who was in trouble but you just couldn't get mad at him because he smiled
so big as if he knew what he had done was wrong. The times that we all spent together were so
special and made such a huge impact on our lives because he made sure that we
knew without a doubt how much he loved us.
He could have been gone for years and within a day it was like we had
never lost a minute of time together.
Then when it came time for him to move on, you were never really sure
when you would see him again but we were more than assured of his love for
us. I remember when he lived with us
when I was in high school. He didn't
sleep much because of his breathing and I was always up about 4:00 in the
morning to study. I would walk into the
kitchen and see him dozing off at the kitchen table with his cup of coffee
waiting on me to get up and visit with him.
By this time he had already gone to the store and bought donuts.
Ex: His fear of me going into labor - having the
baby with him there alone.
My grandpa had a religious side
to him as well. He did not believe in
organized religion but he did believe in his God. He could read scriptures in the Bible off the
top of his head that would just shock most people who knew him. They never suspected him to be so
knowledgeable of the Bible. Although we all make mistakes and may not
live exactly by the book. When it came
to other people, my Grandpa is about the closest thing to a "True
Christian" that I have ever known. You couldn't get him to say anything
bad about another person if you tried.
He helped other people all of his life.
He was constantly giving to others and could never do anything that
would harm another. He truly saw good
in all people. He believed every person
had a good side to them.
As the saying goes you are only
as good as the animals and young children believe you are. I have seen a child be around my Grandpa
that doesn't just love him to pieces within minutes literally of meeting him. He adored children and just gleamed at the
innocence that he saw in the child's eyes.
All my high school friends called him Grandpa. The same holds true for animals. Grandpa loved animals as if they were humans.
He had two very large Rotwallers; Tank and Sheba. He fed them thirty pounds of chicken a
week. Every where Grandpa went those
dogs were right along with him in the back of his pick up. They were his best friends. When he talked
about his dogs it resembled the way a mother talked of her newly born
child. You could just see the passion in
his eyes for his dogs. They were part of
him.
The one absolutely unselfish
friend he had in this world were his dogs. The ones never proved
ungrateful. If Grandpa would have made
them, they would have slept on the cold floor, if only they may be near their
master. Truth is I think Grandpa
actually let Tank sleep in the bed with him.
Those dogs would have kissed my Grandpa's hand even if he had no food to
offer. They would lick the wounds and
sores that came in encounters with the roughness of the world. Those dogs would guard the sleep of my
Grandpa as if he were a prince. His dogs
are grieving just like us. My mom went
to clean out Grandpa's house and there lay three big guard dogs, not enough
energy to get up and bark, their head between their paws, eyes sad, faithful
and true even in death.
As you all may or may not know,
my Grandpa's health has been in decline for many years. He suffered from bleeding ulcers, empazema,
gout, cerosis of the liver and I'm not really sure what else. He wouldn't complain about his health but you
couldn't help but notice how hard he had to work just to get the next breath in. I would
always hug him and ask if he was going to okay and he would just laugh
and say, "Lord I hope not. I'll
never know it in a hundred years anyway."
He was so tough to the very end.
I don't ever remember when Granpa's health was 100%. I just remember him working so hard to make
another dime so that he could hopefully bring another smile to a person's
face. I guess because he was sick for so
long it was easy to just think he was immortal.
I just assumed my Grandpa would always be here. He became ill in his last few years. Very tired and worn. During his last few days he told the
preacher, "I am ready to take that long nap".
Ex: Explain what he told my mom about not being
scared to die. He was reassuring her
that she had made the right decision. He
was a brave man up unto his very last breath.
My mom held his hands until he took his last breath.
My grandpa and I used to talk about death
and he always told me not to fear death.
I believe that people let life divide them from their loved ones. Generally we are all so busy and don't have
the time to give to our families until death, which is supposedly eternal life,
reunites, and reconciles. I am happy
that my Grandpa will be reunited with his brother Tommy. And I now have something to look forward to
on the other side. Being with my Grandpa
again and showing him how much I love him.

moved to neo-natal ICU for double pneumonia and a heart murmur, and was there
for seven days. She is doing fine now,
but still has a few complications. She
has reflux, her vocal cords are round instead of flat (which makes her make a
terrible wheezing sound...but she should out grow that) and her right foot is
seriously turned in so she has a cast on her leg from her thigh all the way
down (she will be in several cast over the next month, followed by braces day
and night for 3 months and then only at night for one month...if that doesn't
work she will have to have surgery...pray for healing on that. But otherwise...she is just beautiful. She has a headful of red hair, and a little
temper to match! Oh my -- she will give
us all a run for our money for sure!
I've so enjoyed her. I live about
5 minutes from Jodi, and there has only been two days that I've missed seeing
her since she's been born. I just have
to go get my daily Abbey-fix!
