Jason Henderson Hunter's Descendants

Jason Henderson Hunter's Descendants

In the previous blog I  listed what I knew about Jason's first generation children plus because of the antique pictures I included Margaret and Ida Mae Julian, which were Jason's grandchildren.

Here, we go deeper.  For the most part, I am just listing the descendants that I acquired information on.

Jason Henderson Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Sherrill's daughter Mary F. Hunter and her family:

Mary F. Hunter (abt 1856 - abt 1881) was born in Bollinger County, Missouri and died in Arkansas.  She lived about 25 years.   She married John C. Julian.  John was born in Kentucky and died probably in Idaho, he owned a big ranch there.  He died as a young man, leaving his two daughters in care of his brother-in-law, Andrew John Hunter.

It is not known for sure which daughter of Jason and Elizabeth Hunter is Margaret Hunter's mother.  It is probably Mary, because of according to Gladys Warren Willis, Margaret's mother married early. There fore,it is likely that Margaret's mother is probablyMary.  Mary may be the most likely, because she was eighteen when Margaret was born.
Margaret's mother died when Margaret was only six years old and her sister, Ida Mae was only four.  Margaret (and presumably also her sister Ida Mae) went to live with, and were raised by, her Uncle John and Aunt Amanda.
                     - David Willis, 1999

The two daughters:

Margaret Canzadia Julian (1874-abt 1957).  She was born in Green County, Arkansas, and died in Corpus Christi, Texas.  She married Judd Peter Warren (1871-1948).  He was born in Illinois and died in Uvalde, Texas.  She lived about 83 years and he 76.  Judd . as his brothers worked on the Cotton States Railroad.

While Margaret was still a child, her father John Julian, perhaps after his wife died, moved to Idaho where he owned a ranch.  Margaret was raised by her uncle John A. Hunter, and his wife Amanda.  Later the Hunters kept the money from the sale of the Idaho ranch.  This upset Margaret's daughter, Gladys.  But Margaret would not let Gladys or "other relatives" (Ida Mae's family?) file a lawsuit.  Apparently, Margaret even destroyed some papers that would have increased a lawsuit's chance of success.

     Maxine Ferguson:
"The Hunters were Maggie's mother's brother and his wife.  Very austere persons.  Maggie's father (John Julian) may have been Jewish, and that is where the Hunters drew the line.  Margaret's father was not wealthy but well off."

     Two sons died at birth.

Margaret lived with her daughter Gladys until she died in the mid-1950's.  David Willis remembers her as a pleasant, quiet lady who made pumpkin pie for him and his sister.

Margaret  C. Julian and Judd P. Warren had one daughter that lived:

Gladys Warren (1896 - 1973).  Gladys was born in Tyler, Texas, and died in Corpus Christi, Texas.   She married Richard Bocock Willis, sr. (1895-1944).   Richard was a colonel in the Army Field Artillery.

Gladys and her family lived in Texas, but in the later years of her youth, they lived in Pine Bluff, Aransas.  Glayds attended the University of Arkansas.  That is where she met her future husband Richard Bobcock Willis.
While Ricard (Sr.) was in the Army during World War I, Gladys and her mother, Maggie, lived in Texarkana.  In Later years, she lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, near many relatives from her father's side of the family.
David and Nancy Willis lived with Gladys for one year in the early fifties, in Riviera Beach, Texas (near the King Ranch), while their mother, Winifred, was establishing herself in Texas after moving there from New Jersey.  Gladys also actually lived with the Willis family in Corpus Christi for several years, lending help to Winifred in raising David and Nancy.
David and Nancy called Gladys "Mammaw".  Mammaw was a warm and strong person, who used good judgment and total loyal and supporting of David's and Nancy's decisions - whether about job or marriage.
Gladys' first cousin, Opal Warren Yarborough said, "Gladys was my idol as I was growing up.  I visited her and aunt Maggie almost every summer until I finished high school and she visited us fairly often.  Her visits were always looked forward to with great anticipation and pleasure for she was go gay and lovable.  She and my father had a great feeling for each other - he never failed her when she contacted him a different periods of stres in her life.  Once he went to N.C. (Ashville?) when Richard (Bobcock Willis, Jr.) was about twelve, to give her comfort during a troublesome period.  When Richard suffered his fatal accident, my father went to La Pror to stay with Aunt Maggie (who heloved dearly) while Gladys flew East to be Winifred Miller Willis and David Warren Willis.

Gladys lived 77 years and Richard lived 49.

They had one son Richard Bocock Willis, Jr.(1921-1948).  Richard, Jr. married Winifred Nancy Miller (1921 -       ),   He only lived 27 years.  They had two children, a boy and a girl.

David Warren Willis (1946 -     ).   David is the one that researched and share all this information from Mary Hunter down to his parents and shared it.  He married Norma Saenz.  They have  two children, a boy and a girl.

Nancy Carol Will (1948 -      ),   She married Charles Grami.  They had one daughter.

Ida Mae Julian (1876 -   ?   ).  Until a few years ago the only information I had about Ida Mae was:  She was living in San Francisco the last the family heard from her.

By coincidence we found her trail.  She married Rozelle Julienne and the only information we had about Rozelle, that he was born in Tennessee.  They had one son:

David Hunter Julienne (1904 - 1978).   How Davis got the name Hunter as a middle name is a mystery.  Or, who is he named after?  David was born in Oregon and died in San Francisco.  He married Alice Johanne Emilie (1906-1997).  She was born in Copenhagen, , , Denmark and died in Las Angeles, CA.  She lived about 91 years and David lived about 74.

They had one son:

Charles Hunter Julienne (1933 -    ).  That is all we have.   A married couple of Charles put his mother's name on the Internet to search to find out more about her for him and came up with chain.  They emailed me telling me of their find and gave me his email address.  I wrote him but he never responded.

Son of Jason Henderson Hunter and Mary:

Hunter (1865/Wright (1865-1919).  James first married Mary Nowell, 26 Apr 1885, he was age 20.  He was born in Arkansas and died in Osawatomi, Kansas,  the same as his half brother, Jason Henderson "Samp" Hunter, Jr.  Osawatomie, Kansas, was home to John Brown who, with his sons, with their raids, were believed partially responsible for the start of the Civil War.

Secondly, he married  Mary E. Horn, 20 May 1888, age 23,  only three years after his first marriage.  He and Mary had one daughter:

William Cecil Riley (1910 -      )  Cecil was born in Greene County, Arkansas
Cecil came once through Marietta and stayed at the Holiday Inn.  I visited him at the motel - he was a tall thin man that looked like an honest hard-working farming.  He had his grandson traveling with him.  He said understood why his grandfather changed his name but couldn't understand why he left his first wife and married the second time.
Cecil also gave me a picture of his mother and father..

Carl Thomas Riley (1915 - 1984).  He was born in Green County, Arkansas and died in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.  He married  Mary Ruth Smith, daughter of John Nash Ella Tennessee Deathrage Smith.  Note - I haven't noticed Ella maiden before - Deathrage, it makes me wonder if the person that supplied the information was playing a joke.

They had one son:

John Thomas Riley.
