John T. and Drusilla Wilson Huey and Descendants

John T. Huey (2826 - 1891) was born in South Carolina, probably near Abbeville, SC, , and died in Cherokee County, Georgia..  He was the son of James  Buchannan Huey and Drusilla (yes, Drusilla).   Apparently, he,  his wife Drusilla, and their extended family. including his parents, came as pioneers from South Carolina.
They lived in the Bascomb-Carmel Road area, present day Bells Ferry and Highway 92 area.  John was a large land holder.

Here are some interesting documented facts:

June 12, 1862, John T. Huey enlisted into the Confederate Army as a substitute for John B. TIPPINS, Confederacy, Co., B., 43rd Regiment, Reg Vol., Infantry,  Army of Tn.
Note:  Large land holders were exempted.  John T. Huey was officially exempted.  However, it was perfectly legal to serve as a substitute for someone who wasn't exempted.  It was usually done for money.  It is likely John T. Huey took payment from John B. Tippins.

Apr 1863 - Vicksburg, Mississippi:  Court Marshaled.
Jul 1863  - Vicksburg, Mississippi, Federal captured his unit, signed an Oath of Allegiance to U.S.A.
Oct 1863 - Vicksburg, Mississippi, Back with Confederacy
11 Dec 1863 - Vicksburg, Mississippi.  AWOL.

1889 - Donated  2.75 acres to Bascomb Meth Church cemetery.

Looking at John T. Huey's Civil War record one can not help from wondering if he kept changing sides to the winning side at the time.

Also, he donated land for Bascomb Methodsit Church Cemetery in 1889.  His father James is buried there.  James died in 1865.  Again, one can't help from wondering if John T. brought the cemetery to his father, instead of bringing his father to the cemetery.
