Cinthia Petty (1866 -   ?   ).

William D. Petty (1834-1917) was born in North Carolina, and died in Murray County, Georgia.   He fought in the Civil War, on the Confederate side (of course).  I read someplace that William could quote any part of the Bible, love to sing hymns, and knew Latin.   In 1867, he was appointed to the Murray County Board of Education;  1880 He was a Census enumerator.  In 1889 he was appointed Postmaster in Cisco, Murray County, Georgia.
This is from the publication SUMACH ON THE HILL:

William D. Petty was born on November 29, 1834 and was almost 83 years old at the time of his death.  He was recognized  as one of the best successful farmer and a deeply religious  man.  He was seventeen years old when Sumach Church was organized may have been one of the charter members.
At age 32 in 1866, William D. Petty was ordained an elder and served for the next 51 years.  He remembered the first church building and the first shed used at Shumach for camp meetings and revivals.  He was likely one of the leaders in the establishment of the Sumach Seminary around 1876.  He also attended all presbytery  meetings as a ruling elder of the Sumach congregation for many years.  On September 21, 1904 he voed with a majority of the ruling elders and ministers of the Chattanooga Presbytery in opposition to the organic union of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.
In 1913  William D. Petty donated the necessary funds and building materials to construct a second shed at Sumach.  An old brush arbor  which had stood for many years was destroyed and the second shed was located  on or near the site of the first.

At age 23, 23 December 1857, in Murray County, Georgia, he married  Jane "Lizzie" Harris, age 16.  They had seven children, 4 daughters and 3 sons.

He also married Mindy

Thirdly, William At age 71, 19 April 1906, he married Maggie S., abt age 57.  Maggied died 24 August 1914.

Children of William D. and Jane "Lizzie" Harris Petty:

Elijah W. Petty (1858-1927).
John N. Petty (abt 1862-1915).
Mary A. Petty (aft 1860 -   ?  ).
Wesley D. Petty (1869 -    ?   ).
Georgia E. Petty (1875-1901).
Unknown 1 Petty (abt 1876 -   ?   )
Unknown 2 Petty (abt 1877 -   ?   ).

Elijah W. Petty (1858-1927).  Elijah was probably born in Murray County, Georgia.  He died in Dalton, Whitfield county.

He first married Eliza "Lizzie" Lackey (1858-1899).  Coincidentally, his mother had the same nickname.  They had one son:
Edward Harlam Petty (1910 -     ?  ).
Elijah secondly married  Annie E, (1872-1927(.  They had one daughter:
Lee Petty.

John N. Petty (abt 1862-1915).  John married Mae C. (1866 - 1943).
There's a reprint of an old newspaper (whole page) in the Chatsworth Times on Wed., Feb. 13, 2013, page B-8. It is from August 5, 1943 and says she died "last Saturday." It has an obit. for Mrs. J. N. Petty (late husband, John N. Petty) of Greenberg, Ind., formerly of Sumach. It says she died in Greenberg, Indiana at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.C. Bradley of Greenberg, Ind. and that she had lived in Indiana for 23 yrs. It lists her sons as Jim Petty (Aurora, Ind.); Earnest Petty (Atlanta); and Horace Petty (Kankakee, Ill.) Her funeral and burial were at Sumach Presbyterian in Murray Co., GA. I have a John N. Petty in file, but not enough info to be sure if it's the same one. Probably is, though. Does this ring a bell?

They had  three children, 1 daughter and 2 sons:

Ethel L. Petty (1888-1910).  She lived 22 years.  She is buried at Sumac Cemetery.
Jim Petty (Bef 1900 -    ?   )
Mac Petty (bef 1900 -   ?   ).

Mary A. Petty (aft 1860 -   ?  ).  Mary married John P. Gregorry.

Wesley D. Petty (1869 -    ?   ).    He married Clara E. Howell, 10 March 1893, Murray County, Georgia.

Georgia E. Petty (1875-1901).  At age 16, 25 December 1901 (Christmas Day).   She married  John H. King.  Georgia lived 26 years and they are both buried at Sumac Presbyterian Cemetery, in Murray County.

They had three children, 1 daughter and 2 sons:

Willie King (1895 - 1912).  He lived 16 years and is buried at Sumac Presbyterian Cemetery.
Ruth King (aft 1895 -  ?  ).    She married an Edmondson.
Ray P. King (1900-1901).  He lived 8 months and is buried at Sumac Presbyterian Cemetery.

Unknown 1 Petty (abt 1876 -   ?   ).  She married a James.  They had one son:
A.J. James (aft 1895 -   ?   ).

Unknown 2 Petty (abt 1877 -   ?   ).  She married a George.  They had one son:

Henry George (aft 1897 -   ?   ).

Elias L. Petty (1838 - 1895).  Elias was born in North Carolina.  He was the executor o f his father's will after his brother refused.   He spent of of his formative years in Fannin County and moved to Murray County, Georgia, before 1870.

At age 24, 27 November 1862, in Fannin County, Georgia, he married 17 year old Susannah Hunt (1845 -   ?  ), daughter of  Elisha and Rebecca Grantham Hunt.  On the 1900 Census Susannah was in Hico, Hamilton County, Texas.

The family apparently moved to Hamilton County, Texas.  Elias lived 57 years.

They had eleven children:

Eliza Jane Petty (1865 -   ?   )
John E. Petty (1865 -   ?   ).
Avery  C. Petty (1869 -   ?   ).
Lucy Lency Petty (1871 -   ?   ).
William D. Petty (1874 -   ?   ).
Walter L. Petty (1876 - ?    )
Wallace E. Petty (1882 -   ?   ).
Watson Petty  (1885 -   ?   ).
Fannie Petty (1887 -   ?  ).
Rosa L. Petty (1889 -   ?   ).
Hattie Petty (1889 -   ?   ).

The below are Elias and Susannah Hunt Petty's children that I have that married and/or had children.   Because I don't have the names of many of them that did, I am not listing below the ones that I don't have any additional information on.  In other words, the information on this family is very scant.

John E. Petty (1865 -   ?   ).  At age 28, 15 April 1894, in Hamilton County, Texas, John married  Lucy Jane Thompson (1861 -   ?    ), age 32.  Lucky was born in Texas.

My notes:

*Nancy's birth data and spelling of name disagrees with what I have.  This
gives date of birth as "Nov 24, 1842," which disagrees with the date given
on her tombstone: 14 Sep 1841, and the spelling, "Nancy C. Murray."  [I
guess you could say that second date is "carved in stone."]  Also, middle
initial here is given as "K." All other sources give "C." I would hazard a
guess that "Catherine" is her middle name, since that's the first name I tho
ught of that can be spelled with a "C" or a "K." But of course, that's
speculation, and we'll probably never know.

**Notice that the informant apparently gives Nancy's maiden name instead of
her mother's when asked.  Probably, he misinterpreted the question to mean,
"your" mother's maiden name.

Notice also that here, the surname is spelled "Pettie," while Nancy's
father's surname is spelled, "Petty." The surname "Murray" is often
mispelled in documents, as here, but I know the descendants spell their name
"Murray."

Also, please note that descendants earlier told me that Nancy was later
disinterred and moved to Hyland Cemetery, Lawton, Comanche Co., Oklahoma,
because the cemetery at Elgin had no caretaker and was neglected.  E.A.
Murray (the informant) would be Nancy's son, Elias Andrew Murray.  Her late
husband [W.S. Murray] is not listed on the certificate--it only asks for
marital status, not names.

She married Winfield Scott Murray (abt 1820 - bef 1880).  I think Winfield Scott Murray served in the Civil War and I also think he died before 1880 because at the time of the 1880 Census Nancy's younger sister Sarah was living with her.
